The tentative schedule includes formal presentations on Friday July 9, Saturday July 10 and Sunday July 11 with the symposia held in the mornings of July 9 and 10. Contributed papers will be presented in the afternoons and on Sunday morning and posters will be displayed during Friday-Saturday.

Symposium: The Young Ones: Youngling Research - Saturday July 10 (8.30-12.00)

  • Ann McHugh (OR): A species-level phylogeny of PNW Speyeria: implications for taxonomy, conservation and biogeography
  • Todd Stout (UT): Outernet: Connecting youngsters with butterflies and moths

  • Jaime George (CA): Number of Monarch Butterflies overwintering in two coastal California counties: monitoring techniques, long term and short term results. 


Early check-in will occur on Thursday together with Executive Council and committee meetings.

A reception will be held Thursday evening and a BBQ at RedTail Canyon Farm on Friday evening. The Banquet with guest speaker Bob Pyle reading from his forthcoming book "Mariposa Road", will be held on Saturday evening. The conference will conclude at mid-day on Sunday with contributed papers and business meetings during the morning.

A number of opportunities to experience the butterflies of Leavenworth and adjacent mountains will be available. A ‘Collectors’ field trip will take place on Thursday with a ‘Watchers’ trip on Saturday. ‘Watchers’ (am) and ‘Collectors’ (pm) trips will take place on Sunday. An additional 'Collectors' trip may occur on Thursday if weather conditions are good. This will be limited to 12 participants and involve travel to Slate Peak in N WA, a notable butterfly locality. Please contact Don Rolfs (donrolfs@aol.com) if you are interested.The Washington Butterfly Association will organize and lead the ‘Watchers’ trips and their ‘no-collecting’ policy will be strongly adhered to. Don Rolfs will organize the ‘Collector’s’ trips as well as a moth collecting trip on Friday evening.
